James Harden moved into second place on the all-time three-point list after passing Ray Allen, but he’s under no illusions about catching Steph Curry for first place.
The 35-year-old Harden (2,975) trails the 36-year-old Curry (3,782) by 807 threes entering Monday’s matchup.
The Beard gave Curry his flowers after he broke Allen’s career record with the Jazz, calling him “the greatest shooter we’ve ever seen.”
Harden is unlikely to pass Steph. And you know it.
When he was asked about his place in the list of three points that have been found in all points, he replied, “I will see myself as the best.” Steph don’t count.”
He continued, “I’m one of the most confident guys we have in this league, man. But I probably won’t catch Steph, and I don’t think anyone will honestly catch her.”
As for whoever caught Steph, Harden thinks he’ll have to be in another life after being gone for so long.
“And admittedly, most of these guys are on that list [being] catch-and-shoot players, so they came out of pindowns, they were shots or whatever. Now, where the game has evolved, guys like Steph come out of pindowns, he creates isos, he comes out of pick-and-rolls. So there are a lot of different variables to be able to shoot the 3, make shots and do it with a high level of success.
“So, one has to have an unbelievable career, shoot the ball well and make a lot of 3s. I mean, if it happens, it will be when we are no longer here. So that will be there for a minute. “
There is no doubt that both Harden and Steph will end up in the Basketball Hall of Fame for all of their accomplishments throughout their careers.
But a few more fights between the two will come first.
