A new documentary released Monday has focused attention on Brittany Zamora, the former Goodyear teacher who was arrested for sexually abusing a student.
Once a star teacher, Zamora who was 27 at the time taught at a primary school and was caught sending illicit messages to a 13-year-old male student via Instagram and other messaging platforms, months after the “relationship” began in 2018.
He later pleaded guilty to sexual conduct with a minor, attempted molestation and public indecency, according to court records. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2019, the lowest sentence for the charges.
A new documentary highlights body camera footage from the days leading up to his arrest, detailing interviews with parents, witnesses, school administrators and Zamora himself.

What does Brittany Zamora do?
Zamora was arrested in March 2018 on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a sixth grader at Las Brisas Academy.
Police reports narrate how, at the time, 27, he slept with a student multiple times in his classroom and in the car, sometimes with an 11-year-old boy posing as a “guard” in the classroom. The two even had sex while his sixth-grade class casually watched the video, according to police reports.
In June 2019, Zamora pleaded guilty to sexual conduct with a minor, attempting to sexually assault a minor and in public as part of a plea deal. He was previously charged with 15 crimes, including eight counts of sexual abuse of a minor and a number of other charges.
Zamora’s relationship with the 13-year-old began when he told his sixth-graders to text him through an educational program called Classcraft because he was feeling lonely one day.
The texts between Zamora and the 13-year-old quickly turned into a sexual relationship, according to police. The relationship continued for at least three months before a monitoring app on the student’s cell phone alerted his parents to illicit texts between the two.
The app – Sentry Parental Control – notified the mother that the word “baby” was coming up frequently in a direct message conversation on Instagram. He soon realized that the Instagram account belonged to Zamora.
Zamora was arrested in March 2018 after the parents received the messages.

Zamora graduated from Arizona State University and took a teaching job at Littleton Elementary School in Avondale. He was awarded Teach of the Year in 2016.
