Netanyahu says Israel’s October attack hit part of Iran’s nuclear program
JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel’s airstrikes on Iran last month hit part of Tehran’s nuclear program while undermining its defense and missile production capabilities.
“It’s not a secret,” Netanyahu said in his speech to parliament. “Some part of their nuclear program was hit in this attack,”
He did not identify the component, but added that Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon had not been blocked.
On October 26, Israeli warplanes carried out three waves of attacks on Iranian military targets, a few weeks after Iran fired a barrage of 200 ballistic missiles against Israel.
This follows a previous exchange of direct attacks in April.
Netanyahu, in his speech, gave few details about what Israel intended.
He said Israel’s April strike was small, taking out one of four Russian-supplied S-300 anti-missile defense batteries around Tehran, Iran’s capital.
He said that in October, Israel destroyed three remaining batteries and caused significant damage to Iran’s missile production capacity and its ability to produce solid fuel, which is used for long-range ballistic missiles.
