Ottawa is unaware of evidence linking Modi to criminal activity in Canada – National
A senior official says the Canadian government is not aware of any evidence linking Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to alleged crimes by Indian diplomats in Canada.
Nathalie Drouin, national security adviser to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, also says there is no evidence pointing to Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar or national security adviser Ajit Doval.
In a statement late Thursday, Drouin says any suggestion to the contrary is both “speculative and inaccurate.”
Drouin’s statement comes after a Globe and Mail report that Canadian security agencies believe Modi, Jaishankar and Doval are aware of a campaign of violence and intimidation against Sikhs that is dividing Sikhs in Canada.
Six Indian diplomats were expelled from Canada last month for allegedly using their positions to collect information on Canadians from a pro-Khalistan organization and pass it on to criminal groups that targeted people directly.
Canada accuses Indian Home Minister Amit Shah of ordering intelligence gathering.
