The Green Party government will send Taurus missiles to Ukraine
Germany’s Minister of Economy, Robert Habeck, who is a candidate for chancellor of the Green Party in the upcoming elections, said on Sunday that he will send Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine if he is elected chancellor.
Habeck, who is also the deputy chancellor in the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, was asked in an interview with the German public broadcaster ARD whether he would go against the current chancellor’s decision not to send long-range missiles to Ukraine.
He said that in his position as the minister of economy, he has taken several decisions regarding the delivery of weapons. “That was part of my job, and it was one of the hardest decisions I had to make.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly asked his allies for long-range weapons so that the Ukrainian military can attack Russian logistics centers and military bases far behind the front line and inside Russian territory.
Scholz justifies his decision not to supply Taurus cruise missiles on the grounds that they would enable Ukraine to hit targets in the Russian capital Moscow.
